Skip Prosser's 2003-2004 Demon Deacons were young but talented. The head coach was able to add a Top 10 recruit by the name of Chris Paul to a nucleus that included Justin Gray, Eric Williams, Jamaal Levy, Trent Strickland and Taron Downey.
Wake entered the season ranked #20 in the AP Poll. An eleven game win streak, including an instant classic 3OT win at #4 North Carolina put the Demon Deacons at #4 in the country. The Demon Deacons finished the regular season with a 19-9 record.
They earned the #4 seed in the East Rutherford Region of the NCAA Tournament and a first round matchup with #13 VCU. Led by Paul's 22 points WF narrowly escaped the upset minded Rams, 79-78. Chris Paul once again led Wake to victory with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists against #12 Manhattan in the second round.
Wake's heroics would run out in the Sweet 16 as the Demon Deacons fell to #1 Saint Joseph's, 84-80.
